Simmons-O'Neal Memorial Concert with the Chattanooga Choral Society for the Preservation of African-American Song Sunday, February 9 | 3:00pm First Centenary United Methodist Church The Chattanooga Boys Choir joined with the Chattanooga Choral Society for the Preservation of African-American Song in this annual favorite event, now in its 27th year in the Chattanooga community! Each of the choirs performed separately, and then the groups combined to close this powerful collaborative concert experience. Presented as part of the Chattanooga Music Club 2019-2020 Concert Series A Song of Peace: A Choral Concert for the International Day of Peace Sunday, September 22 | 4:00pm | UTC-Patten Chapel The Chattanooga Boys Choir hosts a special musical event commemorating the International Day of Peace, also known as “World Peace Day” on Sunday, September 22 in Patten Chapel on the campus of the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. Partnering with a special ensemble of local music educators assembled to expand the repertoire of this event, the choirs presented pieces from across different cultures, languages, and musical styles to promote the cause of piece through the powerful medium of music. Only Men Aloud! A Festival for Tenor-Bass Singers Saturday, October 19 | Festival: All day, Concert at 3:30pm | Baylor School Chapel The Chattanooga Boys Choir hosts its eighth annual Only Men Aloud! festival for changed-voice singers in grades 8-12 for a day of instruction, rehearsal, and performance. The CBC’s Cantabile choir joins local students in preparing selections under the direction of CBC staff and guest clinician Dr. William Powell (Director of Choral Activities, Auburn University) with whom they will perform in an afternoon "informance" program for parents and guests. Master classes with voice instructors and performances by Chattanooga Boys Choir Cantabile and the Auburn University Christmas On Broadway: The 57th Annual Singing Christmas Tree School Performances: Friday, December 6th at 10:00am and 12:00pm Public Performances: Saturday, December 7th at 12:00pm and 5:30pm Tivoli Theatre | 709 Broad Street The program included more than 100 members of the Chattanooga Boys Choir’s five component choirs, as well as guest artists from the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera Youth Orchestra (Gary Wilkes, director), Ballet Tennessee (Anna van Cura, director), and the Metropolitan Bells handbell ensemble (Gary Bynum, director). The choir’s special guest performer was Scott Coulter, a Chattanooga Boys Choir alum who has been honored as one of Broadway’s top performers in both theater and cabaret productions. In all, the stage was graced with over 200 performers providing a splendid display of holiday music and dance for all ages to enjoy. The theme of the Singing Christmas Tree was “Christmas on Broadway,” as stage veteran Scott Coulter joined the choir in presenting holiday pieces made famous on some of the most musical theater productions. “These Are a Few of My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music, “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” from Miracle on 34th Street, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” from Miracle on 34th Street and “Toyland” from Babes in Toyland are just a few of the staples from Broadway holiday repertoire that were featured. Spring 2018 O King: Celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Monday, January 22, 2018 Roland Hayes Auditorium | 7:30pm This program honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King and his colleagues and included music, dance, spoken word performance, and a step-show, along with brief reflections on important themes from Dr. King’s life and work. Fall 2017 Ukuthula: Peace, Justice, and Freedom Thursday, September 21 Barger Academy of Fine Arts | 9:30am and 10:00am East Ridge Elementary School | 1:00pm and 2:00pm The CBC Handel and Concert Choirs presented a program of pieces celebrating World Peace Day on September 21 with several area elementary schools. The students in each school prepared the stirring South African freedom song Ukuthula, which they will performed with the choir Only Men Aloud! Saturday, October 21 Baylor School | 9:00am-3:00pm; festival performance at 3:30pm Men in grades 8-12 enjoyed a FREE day of instruction, clinic, and learning new repertoire with the CBC staff, Cantabile Choir, and guest clinician Dr. Jonathan Rodgers (Lee University). The day ended in an "informance" featuring the festival choir and the Men of Lee chorus from Lee University. Rejoice! Community Hymn Festival Sunday, October 29 First Baptist Church-Gateway | 3:00pm festival choir rehearsal Saturday 10/28 from 10:00am-12:00pm Over 100 singers from across the community performed with the CBC choirs in an afternoon of hymn-based anthems and congregational singing, complete with brass, organ, timpani, and special guest speaker Dr. Eric Nelson. Spring 2017 Finale! Spring Concert Thursday, May 11, 2017 Second Presbyterian Church | 7:00pm 700 Pine Street, Chattanooga All five Chattanooga Boys Choir ensembles presented a concert wrapping up the 2016-2017 season. Chattanooga Boys Choir | FSU University Singers Monday, March 13, 2017 First Baptist Church - Sanctuary | 7:00pm 401 Gateway Avenue, Chattanooga In its second collaborative concert with a university choir, the Chattanooga Boys Choir hosted a joint performance with the University Singers from Florida State University. The boychoir and the University Singers - regarded as one of the premier collegiate choruses in the country - performed separately and combined, including the Ukuthula featured in the fall 2016 AVoice4Peace movement. Fall Concert with the Lee University Women's Choir Sunday, October 19 First Baptist Church - McEwen Chapel The Chattanooga Boys Choir HANDEL and CONCERT choirs were joined by special guests from the Lee University Women's Choir (Jonathan Rodgers, director) in this special fall concert presentation. Sacred works, folks songs, spirituals, and more filled the air as both choirs performed. The two ensembles joined together at the end of the program for a closing selection. Youth Performing Arts Showcase featuring CBC Cantabile Sunday, October 26 Chattanooga Theater Center The Chattanooga Boys Choir CANTABILE ensemble performed on this special program organized by the Chattanooga Performing Arts League, featuring a dozen youth performing arts organizations including Ballet Tennessee, CSO Youth Orchestras, the Howard School band, and many others.
